I provide consulting on low impact development, focusing primarily on extensive green roofs and making them cost effective by looking beyond the conventional cost comparison between regular roof versus green roof. I integrate low impact development strategies and green roofs into stormwater permitting and lead negotiations with permitting authorities.

My philosophy is to truly make green roof affordable by selecting materials that perform multiple functions to reduce the amount of layers, labor, and thus overall costs.

Design of green roofs and/or technical assistance in review capacity.
Present economic advantages of Green Roof technology to client/project team.
Provide expert witness to councils and boards.
Apply for funding assistance.
Cost estimating.
Facilitate meetings (in Charrette form if desired) between all parties (client, architect, landscape architect, planner, city planner, building inspector, stormwater permit authorities, fire marshall) to address concerns with technology and to take full advantage of all possible benefits a green roof provides.
Work with engineer to ensure integration into stormwater plan and permit.
Train roofing contractor and construction administration.
Provide assistance in plant and material selection.

I understand my role as the liaison between landscape architects/planner and engineers. My expertise focuses on site planning and water use in combination with watershed protection and the LEED Green Building Rating System (US Green Building Council). I address permitting issues and also consult regarding an overall ecological master plan and site design with rainwater collection and biological wastewater treatment - all to ease permitting requirements and thus costs for a client/developer while reducing nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus pollution) and sediments in a watershed.
